Long Winter Coat A parka will typically go to just above the knee. Some trenchcoats will also go to knee level and sometimes even a little lower. The longer the coat is the warmer it will be. Some people like to have a long coat because it keeps their legs warm. When you sit down, a long coat will keep you warmer. In the winter time people often sit down on snow or cold metal benches. A longer coat is a good barrier to have. Many of the longest coats that are sharp looking, and not parkas, are made of wool. Wool trenchcoats are a very popular long coat.

A short coat will come down to the waist. The short coat will often have an elastic or pull string to cinch it around the waist.
